Etymotastic August 16, 2008 J. Berry (Brooklyn, NY United States) Love 'em. Lightweight, inexpensive (relatively) and not only can I hear Monk's mumblings even clearer, I can hear them without being distracted by the screaming baby next to me on the plane. Also, they sit in the ear in such a way that I can sleep flat on a pillow with them in without any discomfort when I'm on the road trying to sleep in a hotel next to the airport/late night construction crew. I've received other brands as gifts ( don't remember which) and gave them away simply that they weren't that much better than the standard Sony earbuds. But the Etys are brilliant.
ER6i: don't belive the hype August 13, 2008 S. lowell 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had reasonably high expectations for this product, based on a few online reviews. I will agree that there is a certain clarity and presence to the midrange, but stop there. I am totally disappointed at this product. These could be classified as "gutless". There is *nothing* resembling bass here. In fact, they sound disembodied and thin. These do not deliver bass as the recording intended, they deliver no bass. These sound like $9.00 ear buds with a rubber surround. It's as if they took the same cheap transducers and made them into an earplug. The claims of eliminating outside noise are greatly exaggerated as well. They do kill about 15db, but nothing like the claim. I returned these. I recommend Bose "over the ear" headphones (really!) or Sennheiser 280HD for far superior performance at a similar price. Again, the ER6i are a good set of $12.00 headphones for $74.00.
People looking for any bass - move on. Otherwise keep reading. August 13, 2008 N. Visconti 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was super excited to give these earbuds a try per many stellar reviews from different websites. I tested these out on my iPod and my computer with many different EQ settings to try to find some happiness. --- this is what I found. PROS: -SUPERB Isolation -EXCELLENT Clarity (you will hear things you never heard and sometimes do not want to hear!) -The ear plug although looks like it will kill your ear, is actually fairly pleasant. It will take some practice to get the right fit and placement (deep) into the ear, but once there you're good.
CONS: -Bass. Bass. Bass. These things offer almost 0 bass. If you push them to far they get extremely distorted on the low end.
And that is the reason they were returned. If you a fan of little bass these are definitely worth checking out. However for the majority of normal listeners the stock iPod headphones will offer more balanced sound than these...but NO WHERE NEAR the clarity of these.
Works as advertised August 6, 2008 Ritchie Hernandez (AZ) Very good design...the cord/earphone seems very durable and works as advertised when inserted correctly. I learned that If I can hear myself breathe and hear the cord when it rubs on the front of my shirt then they are inserted right. There will be zero bass if they are not inserted right.
Excellent sound and isolation August 4, 2008 Dean Lusby (Central Pennsylvania) Excellent product! Nearly perfect with only one glaring issue. I bought these to use on my daily motorcycle commute. I had tried several other brands that advertised noise isolation, but none of them really worked... to get the music above the ambient wind noise (full face helmet) I had to crank the volume so much that my ears were ringing when I got home. Not good. These isolate so well that I can keep the volume down, hear what I'm trying to listen to, and keep my ears healthy.
The only real complaint I have with these is that the shape and size make it difficult to remove these from your ears without pulling on the wires. They are meant to be inserted deeply into the ear canal to seal out noise, therefore I think they ought to have a bit more length and/or texture so that they can be easily removed.
