Horrible clicking noises and not in stereo! August 17, 2008 M. Landon (Hollywood, CA USA) I purchased these in the hope they would work as a good speaker system for my outdoor theater. Upon opening the box I was a little surprised to see how cheaply the speakers, transmitter, and remote were made. Never the less I proceeded to set them up using AC power instead of batteries ( I didn't have 12 C-cells) and test them out. The first problem is that the transmitter doesn't sent out a stereo signal! Beyond that problem I was getting a intermittent screeching, clicking noise that would not go away by hitting the "auto tune" button. So I have packed this speaker system back up and have returned it.
Less than I'd hoped for August 13, 2008 E. Schroeder First of all, they do work. In fact they received a decent signal upstairs, through several walls. I didn't expect a lot of bass and didn't get it. And as mentioned in other reviews, the blue light they use on it is annoyingly bright. You have to turn it away from you and then it still lights up the whole room if there are no other lights. A little black electrical tape does wonders. However, what I didn't expect is sometimes when no music was playing and the speaker was on, it would squawk loudly, possibly due to wireless interference.
good sound, limited portability August 8, 2008 L.Jean (Boise,ID) Good sound; a little boomy and light on the high-end, but that could be expected from such a watertight speaker and can be compensated with the treble adjustment on your audio source. The volume is good for such a small unit. I do get occasional frequency interruptions; I have attempted 'auto tuning' as recommended by the manual, but to no avail. From the reviews, this doesn't seem to be a common occurrence, but we use a 900MHZ phone as do our neighbors which could contribute to the issue. I was disappointed to learn that the base unit can not be battery operated, so camping uses, auto uses, etc. are out unless I buy a DC power source.
Good Product August 5, 2008 Phillip Sawatsky (Surrey, BC) I recently purchased these speakers for my back deck. Overall I've been very impressed; sound quality is high and wireless reception has been excellent.
Very good speakers for the price, with some quirks though July 30, 2008 K. Cone (Burke, VA) First, these are very nice-looking and stylish speakers. Very easy to put the whole ensemble together and actually you could set up everything without reading the manual. Having stated that, I wish that some of this speaker system's quirks were listed here before I bought them. They're still very nice though, but I do have to return them because they don't suit the purpose for which I intended them, to help an elderly person have a wireless, easy-to-use, speaker system placed right near his chair where he normally views a large TV from a distance (the sound traveling across the room disturbs everyone in the house).
Yes, the bright blue LCD lights indicating that the receiver is getting an audio input signal and the speakers lights that indicate power is on are incredibly, blindingly bright. I suggest a small piece of black electrical tape.
Weather you use the AC adapters (included) or own batteries (not included) for the speakers, they have a 4 minute standby time after which they power off automatically. You then have to turn on each speaker individually. Let's say you have a TV audio signal leading into the receiver and you turn the TV off. If you don't turn the TV on again the speakers with shut down and you have to manually turn them on again (you can't leave them on indefinitely). Not a problem for me but for my 80 year-old father who is also a stroke victim and has problems walking and moving, yes, it's not very convenient.
No batteries are included with the remote (2 AAA). The remote is very simple to use. One of the cool things is that you can individually adjust the volume on each speaker. But since my father had a speaker on either side of him, he had to turn left and then right to adjust each speaker, which was just a pain in the neck for him. But I like that function, I can leave one speaker at a lower volume than the other.
Overall sound quality is pretty good and I might actually keep this system for my ipod. Don't expect Bose quality though. But for $110 this is a very versatile wireless speaker system.
The manual states that the speakers need to be within 10 meters of the receiver. And the receiver wire length from an outlet is about 4 feet so I'm not sure where the 150' statement comes from concerning the signal distance. It might just be that the 10 meter distance is merely a recommended distance.
Sound projects well from each speaker (the speaker grill goes around the speaker column about 180 degrees so if you wanted more of a directed sound (like computer speakers) this isn't for you. Sound is very crisp and lots of treble so it actually improved greatly the mwah-mwah tones from the built-in TV speakers that this wireless speaker system was connected to.
I think I'm going to reread the manual about that 10 meter distance thing and update my review soon!
