5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!   August 14, 2010

Extremely pleased with the product. Still exploring all of the possibilities at this point as I have not had as much time as I'd like to work on this build, but so far it's blowing away the Gigabyte (should have been BITE) that it succeeded. Looking for quick evidence of a quality piece of equipment? Just check out the I/O cover plate and compare it to that of other manufacturers in the same price range. Is it as cooling looking as an MSI? Not if you like lots of lights, but lights do not make a good board. A word of caution if you are obtaining a rebate: the UPC tag that they are requesting for the rebate is on the inside box, not on the sleeve or plastic overwrap. Very easy to miss.

5 out of 5 stars Great upgrade from my old ASUS P5W DH Deluxe   August 11, 2010
Juniorverse1
I recently upgraded my computer from a Core 2 Duo with an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard to this EVGA motherboard with the Intel Core i7 870 2.93GHz Quad-Core LGA1156 Desktop Processor and OCZ Technology Gold Series PC3-10666 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) Low Voltage Dual Channel Kits OCZ3G1333LV8GK. I am so pleased with everything, especially with this motherboard.

It took me quite awhile to decide whether I was going to purchase this motherboard or not. I have always had good experiences with my ASUS motherboards in the past and I was a little hesitant to go with EVGA since I hadn't heard much about them before. After doing some research and visiting the EVGA forums, I decided to go for it, and I'm so glad that I did.

The layout of the board is great. Everything fits without being too cramped. The 6 internal and 2 external SATA ports come in real handy with all of my drives, and the RAID features work great and were easy to set up. I also love that you can connect up to 12 USB devices from the board.

The onboard RealTek HD sound is great (I'm only using a quad speaker + subwoofer setup) and it is adaptive so when you plug something into one of the ports, the drivers ask you "what did you just plug in there?". I also love the digital LED on this board that can be used for diagnostic purposes, and it shows the CPU temperature once your system has booted up. There is also a little red glowing EVGA logo on the board that is a nice touch if you are using a case with a clear panel on the side. There are also plenty of fan connectors for the CPU and case fans.

If you are looking for an inexpensive yet effective CPU and board cooler that is compatible with this motherboard and the LGA 1156 chips, may I suggest the Cooler Master GeminII S Copper Base Aluminum Fins 5 Heatpipes CPU Cooler? It is reasonably priced and works well.

I'm very happy I decided to give EVGA a chance!

4 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings on the EVGA P55 Series   June 6, 2010

I have mixed feelings about the EVGA P55 series in general. I first started with the P55 FTW board and ran into issues installing Windows 7. Luckily with the help of the EVGA forum community, I was able to figure out that the Intel SpeedStep feature was causing my BSODs. Updating to the latest BIOS and drivers didn't help, so I eventually returned that board. Next I bought the P55 SLI (because I really did not need all the advanced O/C features of the FTW) and ran into other issues. Windows 7 installed fine with SpeedStep enabled this time, but in Windows, only 2 out of my 4 GB RAM was being used. Windows and third party tools were able to recognize my 4 GBs, but only use 2. Again with the help of the EVGA forum, I had to re-sit my CPU in its socket to get my other 2 GBs back. (This had to do with the memory controller being in the socket.)

This is my 12th build in the last ~10 years and it was a very frustrating weekend dealing with these random issues, but I am finally all up and running. The board itself looks amazing and laid out very well. The EVGA forum is great with a ton of knowledgeable members. I would have hoped everything would have worked the first time, but I am going to cut EVGA some slack.

Overall, this board and the P55 series in general, get 4 stars out of 5.

5 out of 5 stars Very solid P55 solution.   April 27, 2010

Picked mainly due to wanting a consistent visual look inside a cm690II advanced case. Chosen over a gigabyte motherboard, happy in the end.
This board has a lot of LED's, including a pulsing evga logo, for those of you who have a window. This board also features an error code/cpu temp readout screen... helpful on evga's forums if you run into a problem. As for the aforementioned double boot, there was mention that newer bios files have eliminated this.

the documentation may not be too great with what is included, but if you can get to the forums, there is plenty of help in regards to getting things working.

the pci slots have a nice release feature that is a lot easier to access than some other boards I have built on.

this board has a ton of fan headders, and the bios makes it easy to set up each of these, as well as options for everything else you can think of.

this board also as mentioned lacks any ide connections.

this boards setup also allowed for a much wider selection of higher quality heatsinks... the stock i5 cooler really is a joke.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Motherboard   February 10, 2010

I researched current P55 motherboards for over a month before deciding to purchase the EVGA P55 SLI. I used tech site reviews, motherboard forums and my own personal needs to make my decision.
The P55 SLI met my needs and was reasonably priced for the feature set it provides, but more importantly (to me) what it leaves out. There are NO onboard headers for IDE or floppy drives (two almost dead interfaces), which is something I was looking for in a new motherboard. Currently, only EVGA, Intel and a few Asus motherboards have left-out IDE/Floppy drive headers - expect more motherboards to do so in the future. I was also looking for plenty of onboard fan headers + onboard power/reset buttons, both of which this motherboard has.
Installation was very easy - PC booted up the 1st try without a hitch. I updated the bios as soon as I had Windows 7 installed - not a single problem since.

In short, I LOVE this motherboard - it's easily my personal favorite out of 20+ computer builds I've done.
