| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The 245T monitor has a 24-inch, 16:10 wide-screen format, with a 178/178-degree viewing angle. The viewing angle is achieved via Samsung's proprietary Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (S-PVA), the latest technology advancement in liquid crystal cell structure, for an improved user viewing experience. The 245T monitor's ultra-wide viewing area can support a range of multi-window applications, thereby helping to improve work efficiency and reducing the need for two monitors.Furthermore, the 245T model features a high 1920 x 1200 resolution, allowing the monitor to deliver clearer and more precise images. The 245T monitor's image quality is also enhanced by Samsung's MagicContrast which offers a super high contrast ratio and an extra-wide viewing angle that's ideal for providing detailed onscreen images. With the 3000:1 super-high dynamic contrast ratio, it's easy to read or view content on the monitor's screen. The 245T model also comes equipped with MagicSpeed, which gives users an ultra-fast 6ms response time (gray to gray), making the monitor ideal for computer gaming and multimedia-driven applications such as motion or streaming video. A faster response time provides better performance of motion video, and produces smoother edges, clearer images and a more natural image response. These features make the 245T monitor an ideal choice for a range of high-end commercial applications that require clear and precise images, such as CAD/CAM fine-detailed drawings, web and graphic design and desktop publishing.

A Great Value August 27, 2008 C. Brown (Illinois, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this monitor to replace an old Apple LCD monitor which had become faded and low in contrast. I use it as a second monitor to hold software "tool palettes" and to view video rough & final cuts. I calibrate all my monitors and profile them by making an ICC for every monitor in my studio.
Installation: I connected this to one of our Mac workstations using the DVi connection and it booted up without any problem. There was no hum or noise. It gets very warm on the top, where the vents are. The USB ports work perfectly, at USB 2.0 speeds. When the computer sleeps, the monitor also sleeps. The viewing angle is far better than the monitor it replaced, but for best viewing I recommend sitting "on axis".
Profiling: This monitor allows each RGB channel to be adjusted, which is very unusual for a fluorescent lamp backlit monitor, and this allows for very accurate profiling. The monitor also allows very good control of brightness & contrast so that once the ICC profile is used there is no banding or artifacts in any images (typically seen when an ICC profile "forces" a monitor's output to conform).
Video: This monitor can display over 90% of the colors & contrast of the NTSC standard. Once this monitor is balanced for video and set with the proper output gamma, videos can be previewed with assurance of accuracy. When using the HDMI as the source feed (e.g., from a Blu-Ray player), HD video can be evaluated with great accuracy. And for those frequent office breaks, your favorite Blu-Ray movie can be thoroughly enjoyed if you have speakers connected.
Four Stars: I gave this monitor four stars because there are monitors that are far better than this one, but cost 4x the price (e.g., the Samsung SyncMaster XL24 24-inch LCD Monitor). To give this monitor 5 stars would mean (to me) that it's as good as the high end monitors, and it's not.
Bottom Line: If you're looking for a monitor to provide you with excellent color/contrast without the expense of a "pro" monitor (at $2000+), and you want HDMI for video playback, this monitor will deliver.
Great Monitor August 17, 2008 B. Landsman (Riverton, New Jersey United States) Samsung SyncMaster 245T 24" LCD Monitor This is my first LCD monitor after using an old NEC Graphics CRT monitor for 5 years. Resolution is much higher, the screen is large enough for me to see multiple work areas at a time and to my amazement watching the high def feeds from the Olympic Games in enlarged mode is fantastic. I'm running at 1920 by 1200 and will never go back to the 1280 by 1024 I was running on my old monitor. I haven't yet explored all the preset modes on the monitor but expect to in the future. For some reason Photoshop thinks the Samsung monitor profile is screwed up but I simply have to get around to recalibrating the monitor. I don't notice any difference with Lightroom 2 or any of the other graphics programs.
A Very Nice Monitor - but overpriced unless you need multiple inputs or wide viewing angles July 12, 2008 Opinunated (USA) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
Warning: When considering any widescreen monitor be sure your computer's video card supports the monitor's "native" resolution. The native resolution is the one setting that produces the best display on any given monitor. All flat screen monitors have a native resolution. In the case of this monitor you need a setting of 1920 X 1200. See your computer's control panel/display settings. Be aware this is a tough requirement and many computers can not support it. Even new (budget) computers probably won't support this setting. Be sure to check that your computer supports a display resolution of 1920 x 1200. I understood this requirement prior to my purchase and upgraded my video card accordingly (cost = $120 plus a few hours of my time). My budget computer was 6 months old.
Pluses: This monitor has a very wide viewing angle and you can stand above it or move side to side and see a near perfect image. That may not be important to you but keep in mind that this feature adds considerably to this montor's cost. There are many other fine 24" monitors - including Samsungs - that use a different type panel which have more restrictive viewing angles and can save you $200 or more. These other monitors will look great when you sit in front of them - they just do not look very good if you are looking from above or from their sides. Evaluate whether you need these wide viewing angles because you are certainly paying for them.
Another Plus: This Samsung offers multiple inputs - far more than is normal. Beyond just a VGA (analog) and a DVI (digital) input - which are the only two possible connections needed to hook up any computor ---- this monitor also offers a multitude of audio/visual connections. For example: I've connected two computors to this monitor plus a Sony Playstation 3. This model of Samsung even offers an HDMI input (the new standard for high definition TV connections) which I'm using for the Playstation. My Playstation 3 connected perfectly over the HDMI input at 1080p and since this monitor allowed me to select 16:9 scaling - I had a perfect picture. If I've lost anyone: the bottom line is this monitor will accomodate any playstation, dvd player or xbox 360 perfectly in addition to a computer. However you are paying dearly for these features and you can get a monitor considerably cheaper if you don't need these extra inputs. In my case - they were a "must have".
Other comments: For a Playstation or XBox you'll need to add speakers. This monitor has an audio out jack (and even a jack to provide +12 volt power to the speakers) but no speakers. Any cheap computor speakers will work. It is shame speakers are not built-in.
Hype: This is certainly a fine display but I have to wonder at some of the other reviews which seem to suggest almost a magical quality to the display. I see a fine display but no better than my 19" (which was highly rated) or my 22" (also top rated). My 19" cost me $200 and my 22" $300. In another review, the writer says he is seeing new colors on this display he had never seen before. I don't. My only conclusion is we upgraded from very different monitors. I see nothing different from my previous monitors but they were of high quality.
Bottom Line: This is just about the most expensive 24" monitor you can find. It is an excellent monitor. Buy it if you need multiple inputs with audio/visual support or you need a very wide viewing angle. Otherwise I believe you can get as good a display for considerably less.
Buzzing (see another reviewer's comments): My monitor is quiet and it seems virtually everyone else who owns this monitor says the same thing.
Addendum: How to set up this monitor. After a few weeks of use and re-reading a number of technical reviews -- here are a few BASIC suggestions for setting up this monitor:
Brightness: 30 - 40 Contrast: 70- 75 Color tone: Normal or Warm 1 MPA: Off DYNAMIC CONTRAST: OFF RGB (that means red, green, blue): Lower the R (red) a bit if you find too much red in pictures - this seems to vary on a monitor by monitor basis but these monitors seem to favor red
Samsung SyncMaster 245T 24" LCD Monitor: The Best One! June 9, 2008 Dr. Richard Balliet (Murrysville, PA USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have a PhD in Vision Research, specializing in color science. (Yes, really!) By my eye, the Samsung SyncMaster 245T 24" LCD Monitor is the clearest, brightest and most colorful Monitor on the Market. See colors that could previously only be seen on "Studio CRT's" costing thousands of $.
Surprisingly, there are many Websites that have "colors" that you cannot normally see accurately with essentially any other Monitor; especially, at the high brightness levels of the 245T. Expensive...But, stunning. Like no other I have seen. If you get one, go to Wired.com (bright greens) or even Newsweek.com (multiple-reds)or Amazon.com (brilliant orange buttons).
No, I have no connection with Samsung, other than also owning the predecessor - 244T that is just as good; but, not as colorful. RB
Very good monitor May 30, 2008 S. Quinn (Chicago) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
If you are a graphic designer, photographer or just someone who wants a high quality monitor that can produce consistent color, and has a wide viewing angles, this is for you. This has a S-PVA panel, which is far superior to cheaper TN LCD panels used in less costly monitors. If you spend a great deal of time in front of a monitor for work, especially with color critical applications, it is well worth the additional cost. Out of the box this needs calibration, and the reds were "hot" which can be dealt with by reducing the red saturation controls. I have not noticed any buzzing sound as other have noted, even with my ear to the monitor. Overall, an excellent monitor and a good option versus the even more expensive Apple Cinema Displays.
