5 out of 5 stars Samsung 920WM = Very Nice!   February 23, 2008

Let me start first by saying I'm surprised there isn't a review for this sweet monitor on here as of yet, but I guess since it didn't hit the market until 4th quarter of '07 I guess that is expected. Anyhow, lets get right to it:

The Good:

The monitor IS HDCP compliant. HDCP basically will allow you to watch Blu-Ray movies on the monitor without having to purchase an expensive stripper if the monitor isn't HDCP compliant. Samsung and even retailers weren't very helpful in determining if this monitor actually had it but it does in fact say DVI (HDCP) on the back panel and also makes reference to it in the manual. I would have been shocked if it didn't since the monitor is fairly new to the market.

The monitor panel is indeed BLACK and not silver like the one pictured which was a relief. Even though the description title said black I wasn't 100% certain I would be getting what I wanted but ultimately was relieved that I did.

I was upgrading from a 6 year old CRT monitor running resolution at 800x600 still so I was a bit worried how small text on the internet would look and if I would have trouble reading it at the recommended 1440x900 resolution. Well, no trouble at all! The picture is really nice especially after setting the resolution to 1440x900 at 60hz, pushing the AUTO button on the front panel and letting it do what it does, then setting it to view via 'internet mode' using MagicBright. I highly suggest setting the monitor to 'internet mode' or make custom changes since the monitor is fairly bright out of the box. I think brightness alone was at 80 which is way too bright. The contrast ratio of 700:1 and 16.7 million colors really can be appreciated in the different modes in the user friendly MagicBright feature. Oh, let me say this as well, I had my parents and brother view the monitor while watching 720p HD trailers and they were highly impressed! I can't believe the level of detail I was missing using my old monitor.

I don't want to run this review too long so the best of the rest includes a 5ms response time, integrated speakers, an included DVI cable to go along with the analog cable, a sturdy stand, VESA compatible if you ever choose to mount it, and is tilt adjustable. The only slight negative when comparing this to other 19" widescreen monitors is that the brightness is 250cd/ms instead of 300cd/ms but I don't know if that even makes much of a difference.

The Bad:

Not much to say here except the integrated speakers aren't the greatest sounding. While they are clear and work fine there isn't much bass to them so they sound a bit hollow. A nice option to have but I use external speakers instead.

There was no manual included with the monitor just a quick start guide to get you running. Not sure if I just got unlucky here or not. It doesn't really matter though since I download the manual from amazon. If you look under the picture of the monitor you will see a link that says "Product Information from Samsung" where you can get the manual in .pdf form.

Lastly, the monitor isn't height adjustable. Would have been a nice feature to have but the tilt feature is sufficient.

Hope this helps someone!
