Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Breathtaking digital SLR image quality and easy operation highlight the 10.2-megapixel D3000-Nikon's friendliest D-SLR ever. Compact and capable, the D3000 is compatible with a broad range of world-famous NIKKOR lenses and includes the versatile 3x, 18-55mm Zoom-NIKKOR with Silent-Wave Motor autofocusing and Nikon VR image stabilization to combat picture blur caused by camera shake for sharper handheld pictures. Special moments are captured faithfully at up to 3 frames-per-second and displayed on a bright, 3-inch LCD monitor. The D3000's split-second shutter response eliminates the annoyance of shutter lag. To further simplify picture-taking in special situations such as portraits, sports, landscapes, and more, the D3000 features icon-identified Scene Modes that deliver beautiful results automatically in otherwise complex situations. Additional Nikon technologies elevate picture quality and guard against picture-taking mistakes. Fast, accurate 11-point autofocus delivers razor sharpness. 3D Color Matrix Metering II and Nikon EXPEED image processing work with an exclusive Scene Recognition System for precise automatic exposures and rich, vivid color. Making the D3000 an even smarter choice are its exclusive Retouch functions for creative fun and the onboard Guide Mode that's ready to lend a reassuring hand to take the pictures you've always wanted.

5 out of 5 stars Even Better Than I Thought!   September 8, 2010

Been wanting a digital SLR for quite a while. SO pleased with this. Have been able to take professional looking shots on my own. Seriously easy to use. Love the manual zoom. And the shutter speed is GREAT. Especially following around my 4 year old. Taking good pics can be a challenge b/c they are always moving. Now I can take a bunch at one time and sort through them later. No waiting for an auto focus and then the flash that inevitably makes them blink! I've only tried out the auto-shoot mode and can't believe how "smart" it is! I've done daytime, night time, indoor & outdoor pics and can't believe the QUALITY of the pictures, no matter what environment. Couldn't be more pleased with the value of my Nikon D3000!

I got this camera on the 31st of August and I love it! It's lightweight and really easy to use.Its true what everyone says, its fun for beginners (like me) but a more professional photographer would probably dislike a lot of the features the camera is lacking, like live view.

4 out of 5 stars Fabulous, light and accessible   September 1, 2010

I love my new D3000. I've only recently gotten big into photography, and after having joined the college Photography Society and playing with what they had, as well as stealing my father's Olympus on occasion for our trips around Ireland, I NEEDED to get my own camera. As described, it's lighter than the Canon and perfect for someone just starting off with digital photography, and is sick of the regular point and shoots. Can't stop me from snapping now!

2 out of 5 stars The wrong camera to buy...   August 30, 2010

I read the early reviews and it looked like a nice replacement for my d40x (which i had given to my daughter). Nice camera when first holding but image quality is gravely lacking. My d40x took somewhat better pictures (they should have been the same as they use the same sensor and this is just a repackaged d40x). The problem. I'm not sure, but blur, softness, inconsistency and lack of detail/sharpness are no fun. I've tried many lens'. The software is somehow flawed. ADR which should have helped the camera slows it down terribly and does not significantly improve picture quality. (I get better pics from my S90 compact --- small sensor or not --- or ancient Pentax DSLR)).

The camera would have been somewhat disappointing a few years ago; in today's market it is unacceptable (picture quality and speed). For those interested in video and an excellent/tilting LCD, look elsewhere. Spend more and get the D5000. Better yet (and I'm a Nikon guy), get the Canon T2i.

Nikon really blew it; a D90 it is not. It's not even a Pentax K-X. Too bad.
