5 out of 5 stars Insurance   August 15, 2006

I use my CMS drive exclusively for insurance purposes. My desktop computer is full of valuable data (finance files, work files, iTunes Music, pictures, etc.). I wanted a solution that will allow me to recover from a hard-drive disaster. Recently, while updating my BIOS, my motherboard crashed. I had to wait several days to get a new motherboard. In the meantime, if I had a hot-swapable drive (ex. CMS), I could have plugged the drive into the USB port of my laptop and I would have been good to go. Unfortunately, I did not and I was dead in the water for a few days. The BounceBack software included with the drive is easy to use and allows you to customize/schedule backups. I have not use the CMS drive to boot from, so I cannot speak to this aspect. But, hopefully, if the need ever arises, the drive will be successful.

To summarize, the CMS drive & BounceBack software appears to be the best external drive/back-up solution available. However, it is more expensive than the alternatives. I believe the CMS drive is the only external hard-drive that can convert to an internal drive (unscrew the case and viola, an internal drive).

P.S. For the ultimate back-up solution, you should also back-up your data files onto DVDs periodically and put them in a safe deposit box (ex., a fire destroys your home and computer and CMS drive).
