4 out of 5 stars Good Value Enclosure   October 4, 2007

I bought this enclosure a little over 2 years ago for about the same price it is selling for now. I have a 300GB Seagate drive in it, and I use it for external backup, and carrying media files to work (music and such for during the workday). The build quality is excellent and it has put up with ALOT of use (everyday for 8 hours for a little over two years). I have tried it on various machines from Macs to different PCs running XP and Vista. I have never experienced any connection issues. The case does get a bit warm after heavy use, but it is supposed to since this is how the enclosure dissipates heat. I would give it five stars if it weren't for the small phillips head screws that keeps the enclosure shut. They are annoying to deal with because of their diminutive size. This is minor though because I rarely open the case to mess with the drive contained within. Also the power supply is a bit bulky, but not so big as to make this enclosure not portable.

Pros: Price, solidly built, reliable
Cons: Annoying case screws, external power supply a bit bulky

Conclusion: There are other enclosures on the market with this kind of overall quality. Some cost more while few cost less. Overall this is a good product that has performed well for me for quite some time now, and definitely worth someone's consideration.

I bought this for my fiance and so far, its been pretty good. It is not too loud and doesnt take up much room on the table. The price was decent. I just hope it stands up over time.

I and two other co-workers have NexStar 3.5" USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosures and they have worked flawlessly. I was very surprised to see the negative reviews. We have had absolutely no trouble with the device and highly recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars Great if you want to turn your old drive into a paperweight   June 3, 2005

I wanted to like this enclsoure. It is affordable and fairly nice-looking. Unfortunately, actually using it was an protracted exercise in frustration. After trying two drives (both of which work fine when mounted internally) on two different machines, at both USB 1.1 and 2.0, all I got was an error message from XP, stating that there was a unrecognized USB device that was malfunctioning. Once or twice I got drive access, but only for a few minutes. Now I've given up and it's going back. No response from Vantec tech support email - just more wasted time describing my problem to them.
