Product Description Vantec Nexstar3 Mirror Finish External Hard Drive Enclosure Form and functionality collide with style in the NexStar 3 External Hard Drive Enclosure from Vantec. With its mirror finish, sleek curves and bold colors, the Vantec NexStar 3 stands out from the crowd. The sturdy drive cage protects your hard drive while the aluminum case effectively draws away the heat, protecting your drive from overheating. The NexStar 3 also utilizes USB 2.0, offering speeds up to 480Mbps, 40 times the speed of USB 1.1! But if you are using USB 1.1, the NexStar 3 is still an ideal way to store and transfer large amounts of data. Available in 4 vivid colors (Steel Grey, Onyx Black, Brilliant Red and Midnight Blue), the NexStar 3 lets you store your personal data in an enclosure that matches your style!

Nicest external enclosure you can find. April 7, 2008 Dirk "Duke" Richter (Connecticut, USA) Believe me I've looked. They're glossy and sleek. But they will get warm, even hot. Probably could use some vents.
Hard Drive Case August 14, 2007 Techno Rock (Rockland, NY) Worked as advertized and it made great use of my old hardrive as a back up device. Solid product. Installation quick and simple.
Does not support all drives June 13, 2007 J. Breneman I purchased this to go along with my new Hitachi SATA 2.5" 160GB Hard Drive. However, after fumbling with it on 5 different computers, trying to make it work (the drive would display but could not format or access it), I decided to e-mail the company. They got back to me and said that it does not support two models of hard drives, and mine was one of them (E5K160 and 5K160).
I decided to hold on to it for the future, never know when I or someone else might need it.
I did some research, and found another model that worked perfectly. It's the Bytecc 2.5; Even though it's only rated at 100GB, it supports my 160GB Hitachi hard drive (as I have seen reviews where others with 120GB and 160GB found similar success).
I am sure this is a good enclosure, just not for all models.
easy, simple February 16, 2007 Edward Zimmer (Northern CT) Reviewed many enclosures....this one had reviews that said it didnt fail right away...so i bit. It was very easy to install the HDD. the directions were clear. When connected to my XP PC, it recognized it right away. No problems accessing the external HDD.
Its a good thing i read the other reviews..as there r 2 screws that need to be secured, and they are small and black in color, where a ham fisted individual could mar them.
the system does not run hot, even tho there is no fan...which makes it quiet...all u hear is the HDD clicking/humming away. I had left it on overnight, and it was just mildly warm to the touch in the AM. it is vertical standing, and looks AWESOME...
BUY IT!
good transaction January 10, 2007 David C. Yang 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
came quick, perfect condition.. product easy to use... just plug it in and it'll work... i'm very happy with the hd case
only thing is, for me... i had a 80 gig hd to put into the case, and sometimes they have 160 gig external hd's for like 50-60 bucks... therefore, i dont know if spending 30-35 bucks on just the case was worth it but i like it none the less... it's well worth it if you have a large 120+ gig hd and need an external case for it... but if your hd is like 40 gigs or whatever... just get an actual external hd and not just a case
