It works with Mac...but June 30, 2008 Emanuel Peluso (Del Mar, CA) I bought this for my iMac, and within two weeks it stopped working. Iomega offered to replace it,but there was no way to retrieve the data. I spoke with iomega tech support twice and was about to return it when I googled some info and found out why it was failing. If you're using this with Mac, be sure to format it for HFS+. The drive comes formatted for FAT32 and will not work with MacOS. Why didn't tech support tell me? SO, the drive is fine, give it 4 stars, but 1 star for iomega tech support.
Good drive for backup June 30, 2008 E. Smith (VA USA) I just use it to backup my music files and my recorded TV files from my media center PC and this drive does the job. There has been no problems with sound, performance, speed, or heat. I keep the drive off for the majority of the time and just turn it on when I want to backup files or transfer TV files to my wife's laptop. I have no complaints about the drive. It is a good drive for the price and does the job.
Excellent Purchase June 24, 2008 Jessica Litwin (Troy, NY United States) This hard drive runs extremely quiet and fast. I just plugged in the USB cable and it was ready to go.
Just get it June 23, 2008 Robert Auer (Germantown, WI USA) Super quiet - works great with Vista and lots of storage space. Drive was recognized as soon as I plugged it in. I couldn't even tell it was running when I did my first backup. Great dive for a great price. Buying two more for my wife's business.
Random Disconnects From USB...Runs HOT!..Lost Data too!! June 22, 2008 J. C. Urbaniak (Oswego, IL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this drive from Amazon in January 2008, but by the beginning of June I was getting random disconnects and reconnects from the USB port that were increasing in frequency. This was audibly clear as the Windows USB event sounds announced this.
I nearly burned my hand as I went to examine the drive and had to use BBQ gloves to turn it by the hot metal sides. I am no wimp but I could not keep my bare fingers on the drive long enough to turn it without pain.
If it is too hot to touch I figure that is just too hot... period.
Even though the USB plug was fully inserted, I noticed that the outlet was actually sagging in the flimsy plastic rear panel of the drive. Even taping the plug firmly into the outlet with duct tape did not help.
Even though I have owned and been pleased with 3 prior Iomega drives, it seems this model has definite design shortcomings.
I have returned the drive to Iomega under the 1 year warranty for replacement, but I am ready to try another brand.
I could not even reclaim all my data off the drive. Windows copy would fail saying it could not find a specific file. I would delete it (delete apparently could find it) and then the copy would fail on another file.
I played this delete game for a day and a half before my patience was exhausted.
CHKDSK failed and said it could not complete. A defrag with Perfect Disk also failed to complete.
Even a full reformat of the drive failed. Only a "quick" format would succeed.
So my data was really hosed and I suspect the intermittent disconnects (or maybe the high heat) had something to do with that.
Did I just get a lemon??? Maybe...but buyer beware.
