1 out of 5 stars data loss and file corrupted   August 16, 2008
Clyde T. Nieh (San Jose, CA USA)
Within one month of purchase, the unit crapped out. Some folders cannot be open at all. Other folders, all the stored files were gone. The loss files will be really hard to replace, since I did not have additional backup for the backup. Maxtor OneTouch 4 Lite 500 GB 3.5" USB 2.0 External Hard Drive This is not a reliable storage unit. I will not to store any more file to this unit from now on.

3 out of 5 stars Bad Software   August 10, 2008
David M. Vanhouse Jr.
I bought this product because I thought it would be a quick and simple way of backing up my files with a quick touch of a button. Well, I quickly found out that this is not the case. In the software, you don't have the ability to choose which folder you want to back up. There is a 'manual' backup option that supposedly lets you choose, but it only gives you a list of basic system folders and doesn't let you specify. So, now I use it as a regular external hard drive and uninstalled the backup software. I use Allway Sync software to backup my folders and it works great.

1 out of 5 stars PC won't boot with Maxtor OneTouch drive connected   June 22, 2008

I purchased this Maxtor OneTouch 4 Lite 250 GB External Hard Drive based on the feature of one touch backup for convenience. After installing this drive, I found 2 problems associated with it. The 1st issue is that the onetouch software did not work and I am not sure if it was due to my Vista Home Premium OS? The 2nd issue is that the PC won't boot with this drive connected. After some google search, I found that you are supposed to unplug this drive before you re-boot your PC. The 2nd issue is really the show stopper for my since I like to turn off my PC when I am not using it to conserve energy.

2 out of 5 stars warning!   May 3, 2008

Be careful when unplugging this piece of junk or when starting up your computer. My files were not lossed but many were "orphaned" by this drive and this when I go to open the file (ex: music cd) there are huge gaps in the file. I use this one as a back up. Piece of junk. Buy a Lacie, they are much more reliable.
