2 out of 5 stars Not up to the mark.   August 9, 2008

The only PRO i see about the unit is the network part, for the price.

It takes a long time to transfer files over the network. I tried to transfer data via wireless (only < 2MB/s) & hardwired (4-5 Mb/p). This might be an issue with my wireless LAN.

The folder creation & sharing process via the web interface.
This interface is too slow, but acceptable, considering the fact that we wont be making changes to the share folders on a day today basis.

Another issue is that, The only way we can transfer data to the unit is via network. There is no USB interface, or any other way to connect to the hard disk directly.

4 out of 5 stars Netdrive   August 9, 2008

It is excellent for accessing storage over the internet wherever you are, but as far as playing files real time from the drive goes, either I do not have a fast enough internet connection or something about the drive or the internet prevents it so don't try to store the music that itunes accesses on this drive. Just back it up.

1 out of 5 stars Please, do not buy this!   August 3, 2008

Please, do not buy this. My partner and I almost broke up over this device, after spending 2 days trying to fix it. I even had my Asperger's friend (who is very good with computers) try and fix it, and he did not know what to do! I think the person that made this product should have a World Book thrown at them, HARD! This device is extremely unreliable, it regularly drops off-line, is slow and has corrupted my internet settings twice, and lost my partner her entire music library! I can't belive we paid for something that has caused this much pain and distress. Also, the advertised remote access is the biggest sham since they had heart surgeons in the 1950's advertising for cigarettes as a way to reduce stress levels, and that they didn't give you cancer. Not only do you have to pay a monthly fee, they want to tell you what you can share. I thought we lived in a free country. Worst of all, the only reason we bought it in the first place was to share stuff between two computers in our own home, thought they only banned that in Tasmania and China.

Do not buy this product! My hard drive crashed 2 months after purchasing it and all my files were lost. I had to bring my hard drive to a data recovery center and pay thousands of dollars to have all my files recovered. THIS IS A MUST NOT BUY PRODUCT! Tech support does nothing other than say "send it back and we'll replace it". Screw the replacement, what about my files? If you plan on storing massive amounts of data and irreplaceable files, DO NOT purchase this item or any other MyBook World Edition HD.

1 out of 5 stars Piece of junk   July 24, 2008

I bought this NAS a while ago and after fuzzling with the software installation (install/uninstall since it wasn't working properly and could not find the drive) and barely got it working, the drive went dead after a few days and was not visible on the network.

Took it back and in a few days they sent me a brand new drive (not to mention the data on the first one - good thing I had a local copy). Hooked it up and everything is working hardware wise. The software (MioNet) is on the other hand one of THE WORST pieces of programming I have ever seen, not reliable, clumsy to use etc.

Did I mention the drive was SLOOOOW?

After having big problems with a WD pasport external usb HDD also (the first one didn't work as it should from the start, the replacement didn't work at all) I swore never to buy a WD product again.

My advice - stay as far away from this drive as possible.
