Western Digital's My Passport studio external HD November 22, 2008 Dr DK Well made, nice styling, easy to use and setup. But will not boot-up or startup Mac PowerPC G5 models. It supposedly will boot-up or startup Mac's that have Intel cpu's. I wanted this drive to use as a backup startup drive with disk utilities, etc. I was disappointed when after buying this drive to find that it will not do what I wanted it to do. All my other firewire external drives and enclosures are able to boot my Macs.
Shop around November 3, 2008 A. G. Jenks (Oregon Coast USA) Western Digital has ALWAYS been good to me. I'm at 15+ WD Drives, never a failure. Great support site!
There are other reliable shippers out there other than Amazon, so shop around and save yourself some bucks.
I did, and have $20 extra bucks in my pocket. Even after shipping...:)
Western Digital External Hard Drive August 29, 2008 E. Stange (Tarpon Springs, Florida) The Western Digital Hard Drive gives me peace of mind knowing that my stored information will be backed up. It is compact, reliable and all that i can ask of an external hard drive.
Great for Mac, no so great for Windows August 24, 2008 Patrice V. Goodger (SPI TX USA) I purchased this hard drive with the intention of using it as a backup for my new Mac, but while waiting for it, I learned that the best way to transfer files from my PC to my new Mac was by using an external hard drive. Great - but, when I plugged it in to the PC, nothing. I couldn't find it anywhere. Nothing came with it in the way of instruction - except a link to the website. Western's support site was either no help at all, or just too advanced for me - and I can pick this stuff up pretty quickly. However, I plugged it in to my Mac - instant success without any configuration. Long story short - I'm using a thumb drive to gradually transfer files. If anyone can tell me (in basic terms) how to get my PC to recognize the drive - great.
