Amazing August 28, 2008 Andrew A. Ferry So I got this card finalize updating my rig, and all I can say is WOW! Granted, I was upgrading from SLI'd 6800 Ultras, so the difference was incredible. With 4GB of RAM, and a Q6600 OC'd to 3.3, this thing SCREAMS through anything I can throw at it. Crysis on high; nuff said.
Terrific Card August 1, 2008 Tigre (Florida) I originally bought this card about two weeks ago "on sale" at Best Buy, discovered it was over $60 cheaper at Amazon, and promptly returned the Best Buy version.
The card is quite good. The only disadvantage is that it is quite long and I initially had a terrible time getting it to fit in my PC. If you have a minicase, check the dimensions of the card and see if it will fit before you buy it,
Amazing performance at a budget price! June 5, 2008 Tariq Rahman (Dubai, U.A.E) If you play on 1680x1080 or less, this card pushes insane framerates with everything maxed in the hottest games!
One slot cooler could have been better, although that's not a negative point for this product as the design follows Nvidia's reference design.
Very highly recommended if you are looking for the biggest bang for your buck!
wow, great card, great price! May 18, 2008 MEEEE!!!! I upgraded from a 7800gt to this card - huge difference. I can play games on the highest settings with AA on and no problems. Card is very slim and does not take up alot of space. Few other things I am happy with: 1) I got the card for $160AR from amazon when everyone else was selling it for $200. 2) PNY rebate came incredibly fast - only took 3 weeks (way to go PNY!) 3) the stock cooler is very quiet so you dont need to buy an after market heatsink. This is a big deal because the stock fan on my 7800GT was so loud, I HAD to buy an aftermarket heatsink. With this 8800GT, it was quiet out of the box, and I cant notice it getting louder even when playing games for a long time. Overall, an excellent buy from amazon, and an excellent product from PNY.
Terrific Performance/Cost Ratio April 10, 2008 Christopher P. Tracey First, some background to set the stage. I am very fortunate in that I working in an R&D lab that has cutting edge computer equipment. My office workstation is a dual quad-core Intel box with two Dell 2407 monitors driven by a nVidia Quadro FX 4600. Using glxgears with both monitors at 1920 x 1200, I have a fps of 22,000 ... the Quadro FX 4600 is an awesome beast. I cannot be expected to come home and work on a machine much slower than the one that I have in the office, but my pockets are not as deep. My home machine is a dual Opteron 285 box with a Samsung 245BW and a Dell 2007WFP. I bought a nVidia Quadro FX 1500, which is a nice card, but my glxgears fps were around 15,000 and videos (wmv and flv) would often pixelate.
The 8800 GT has received rave reviews and with the moderate price, I thought that I would give it a try. I also purchased a Danger Den water block for the card since my home system is water cooled. The GPU temperature prior to the water block installation was 76 C in a room with ambient temperatures of 17.4 C. With the water block, the temperature decreased to 34 C.
The 8800 GT has impressed me. The screen colors are more vivid and sharp. My glxgear fps increased to 17,000 and changing desktops is a mere snap now. More importantly, flv movies look great!
Pros: sharp and vivid screen colors, very fast video response, single slot card with cooler, attractive appearance, great nVidia linux drivers.
Cons: I cannot think of a single con. I wish that the card was a little faster, but then when are we ever really satisfied?
Recommendation: If you want a great performer at a good price, then you definitely want to consider this card.
