Gets the job done... August 25, 2008 M. R. Hissem (Somewhere in between) I needed a quick fix for an old puter and this did the trick perfectly. I wouldn't recommend this to any high end users, but for a back up puter, it's exactly what was needed.
Outstanding value August 4, 2008 Brian Baker (Santa Clarita, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I use my desktop PC for gaming and advanced pro-level photographic applications, including Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom (among other processing software).
My <2-year-old PC is already a pretty fast machine, with an Intel 3.4 gig CPU and 2 gigs of RAM and on-board ATI-200, but it was straining and choppy with the graphics of current games like NWN2 MOB. On the other hand, I didn't want to spend $300 - $600 for a graphics card to upgrade a computer that only cost about $500 to begin with.
This card is the perfect solution! Not only is the price right in the ballpark of reasonability, but I was very surprised at the improvement of the quality of the graphics. On rerunning some of the gaming sequences, the improvement was simply astonishing!
Great value and performance from a proven supplier in ATI Radeon.
PICTURE DOES NOT MATCH DESCRIPTION July 27, 2008 avraam jack (USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
. Description states HDMI out, Picture shows S video connector? . Still, the specs look good. .
Not a high end gaming card, but perfect for BluRay February 23, 2008 R. L. Piccirillo 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
The description for this video card is a a little sketchy - and in error in a couple of places. First of all, it does have 256 mb of DDR2, but it is 64 bit memory - not 128 bit as listed in the title. Second, under Technical Details, it refers twice to the HD 3800. The details for the 3400 match the descriptions, but the purchaser needs to be aware that this card is entry level whereas the 3800 cards are top end. For some good news, this PCIe 2.0 card works very well in the older PCIe x16 slot, but at half the bandwith. The advantage to this is that, at almost the same cost as the older ATI 2400 series 256mb cards (PCIe 1.0), you get excellent results with the ability to upgrade to a PCIe 2.0 motherboard at a later date. The other advantage to running this card is access to the latest improvements in ATI's unified HD decoder. You also need to know that the packaging for this card only includes the card and and the setup disk. Although this version of the HIS HD 3450 is a perfect match for a Home Theater PC with expansion slots designed for low profile cards, the only bracket included is designed for full size cases. Low profile brackets are available, but at an extra cost. HIS HLPBSL4066 Low Profile Bracket Kit for HIS Video Cards As with all ATI HD 3450 designs, this card delivers full 1080p, but if your display uses an HDMI connection, you'll also have to purchase a DVI to HDMI adapter or cord which can run you another $12.00 to $60.00 depending on which solution you choose. For the money you end up spending, you might be better off buying any one of several other versions of the ATI HD 3450 that include all the necessary connections - and possibly 512 mb of 128 bit memory. Again, on the positive side, once I gathered all the parts, the HIS 3450 delivered outstanding BluRay video and audio results. The most hardware challenging disk I have is the preview disk that came with the Sony BDU-X10S Sony BDUX10S SATA Blu-ray Disc-ROM Drive (Internal). Tonight, after installing the card, it played it perfectly - as well as some other video intensive movies I rented for the night. The HD 3450 is not a high end gaming card, but for BluRay and basic home entertainment - it is very good solution.
